SHATANOMICS AND THE EXCESSIVE NAIRA DEPRECIATION

I am writing this piece without being penchant. With outlandishment and bizarre, the current
economic climax had, by 31" January, 2024 or so, and at parallel markets made dollar to equaled NI,500.

Then, as a biographer and researcher on Dr. Mamman Shata Katsina and his legacies, i remembered, he sang on economic issues, that if he is presently alive by now, he would compose songs on the infinite and uncontrolled naira depreciation, and then proper solutions. Then, in Europe and other civilized states, musicians and writers brought about economic and political revolutions through the poems they composed.

In Nigeria, in discernment, none of the artists performed to the task except him (Shata) Unarguably, the late songbird can still be seen as an economist, even in research institutions with.him having many tapped and untapped poems that followed the proper pedigree and sagacity of economic revamption and agricultural revolution that can heighten the nation's economic status.

I cogitate that, way back in around December 1972 Alhaji Mamman Shata had spectacular songs such as Kudi A Kashe Su Ta Hanya Mai Kyau, An Wo Sabon Kudi Naira. In fact, many
economists in universities and other financial institutions try to adopt the poems to contemporary economic problems in Africa.

These made Shata a philosopher; I said it loudly, vividly. Again, to add more fuel into fire, he prophesized some of the economic and insecurity problems we are facing today both in songs (Wakokin Gargadi ko Siyasar Kasa) and in personal, off-mike discussion.

Astonishingly, Shata sang on anti-corruption, misuse of public power for private gain. Shata was a man of great artisticall sagacity. Still in economics and economy Shata had many debuts with many inclinations to enlightenment on agricultural practices or farming, or more commonly in Hausa as Wakokin Noma. I remember the riple-natured poems, Kowajje Yamai Yai Kallo Wannan Bai Kamar Shata ba (1969/70) where he discussed issues with direct approach to forest ecology, forest ecosystems, ranch agriculture garden farming and irigation and mixed farming management.

So also similar poems such as: Haji Garban Bichi Dan Shehu (1965), Audu Bako Gwamnan Jihar Kano (1972), Nagode, Habubakar Koko (1975), Garkuwan Bauchi Amadun Kari (1971), Kwamishina Sabo Jama 'are, Mai Noma Habu Garba Dan Ammani (1984) or, Sannu Habu Dan Ammani Garba (1984) with the exception of Noma Yakin 'Yan Arewa (1966) which was for direct enlightenment. Wakokin noma and sana 'a like Kai 'Yan Yara Gumi na Na ke ci.were heightened and superb. Those of sana'a are more of savings and managerial sciences.

Then, reflecting on the above statement, in the last preceding years, the high-staged cantankerous Jonatahan and Buhari's administrations had not taken Nigerians out of poverty. Buhari's was more ineffectual, unorthodox.

What they did was an abuse of power, hoodwink and extortion. They took umbrage in many of their dealings. Within the pretext, or without being circumstantial, remember with agony, with somber Buhari's paradox statements during his campaign which contradicted his actions in office and which went contrary to expectations on him.

I also remember that from 2015 to 2023 about
63,118 innocent poor citizens were killed by bandits, kidnappers and insurgents during the
Buhari administration. On hearing about this figure, i remembered Shata's poems: Ku Yunkura Yan Arewa Ku Falka (1962), Ni Dai Rokon Da Nai, A Bar Tashin Hankali (1966) More so, in 2021 alone he (Buhari) spent about 30m dollars (N21 bn) in unnecessary and useless trips. Today, the cost of living is to the roof. And, in the absence of Shata, I now throw these economic and corruption challenge to ALA, Rarara and many of their contemporaries who sing piano today to bring out poems on current economic, insecurity and corruption realities in the country.

Where are the ALAS ? Where are the Rararas? Let them not be praising the politicians only. The disjointed, dismantled economy is hitting the roof, naira further plunges and sinks in River- Buhari. Rarara must understand that Buhari run the most corrupt government in the history of mankind, in the history of Nigeria, and he must tell the World.

Rarara and his Co must compose songs on public enlightenment and tell our front-line politicians in power that they must deliberately create machineries to adjust the economic hardship that can initiate automatic adjustment. They must tell our leaders to look for quick ways to halt the devaluating naira against dollar. They must tell the present and past political office holders like Muhammadu Buhari that they created more problems than solving them and the hardship is still ongoing.

They must perform songs to tell UN that we are under-policed, that we need additional to tackle insecurity in the country. Please we are waiting.

Then, in conclusion, Shatanomics, as it may wish to be can have stake in many of the financial and economic disciplines as they rooted in Social Sciences. It may wish to be defined as effective tools or chambers to determine the most logical and effective use of Shata songs/poems to meet some management and economic goals, either by an individual of cooperative.
